You launched a website, but when you search for your services, it is nowhere. Before panicking, go through these seven reasons. Most have a simple fix.
First: does Google know your site?
Type site:yourdomain.com into Google (with your real domain). If you see your pages, Google knows the site and the question is ranking. If you see nothing, Google has not indexed it yet, and one of the first three reasons is likely. Google explains the first steps in its guide How to get information on Google [1].
1. The site blocks search engines
Many sites are built with a setting that tells search engines not to index them, for example a "noindex" tag or a robots.txt rule, often left on by mistake after development. Check your site's settings or ask whoever built it. This is the most common cause on new sites. Google explains how the noindex rule works and how to remove it [2].
2. The site is new
Google needs time to discover and index a new site. Submit your site in Google Search Console and add a sitemap so Google finds every page faster. It can still take days or weeks. Google's guide explains how sitemaps help it discover pages [3], and Search Console shows which pages Google has indexed [4].
3. There is nothing to rank
A one-page site with a few sentences cannot rank for many searches. Each service needs its own page with real content. See SEO for a business website: where to start.
4. You are searching for the wrong thing
You might appear for your company name but not for "electrician Plovdiv". Ranking for general searches is much harder and takes time, content and a good local profile. Check what you rank for in Search Console.
5. Technical problems
A very slow site, pages that do not work on phones, broken links or a missing security certificate all make ranking harder. See why is my website slow and what is an SSL certificate.
6. No local presence
For local searches, Google relies heavily on your Google Business Profile, reviews and consistent contact details. Without them, the map results go to competitors: set up your Google Business Profile. Google says local results are based mainly on relevance, distance and prominence [5].
7. Competitors are simply stronger
In some industries and cities, competitors have years of content, reviews and links. You can still compete, but it takes consistent work. See how long SEO takes to work.
Most "invisible" websites are either blocked, too new or too thin. All three can be fixed.
Get the basics right from the start
Many of these problems never appear when a site is built with search in mind. Every Studio V1 site has an SEO-ready setup, a sitemap and a fast, mobile-friendly build: see what is included.
